Fire and Ice Festival Coming March 25
Anyone looking to say goodbye to winter and hello to spring should swing by the first-ever Fire and Ice festival at Clinton Town Beach from 2 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, March 25. The event will feature music, games, refreshments, and more.
The first-of-its-kind event is being held by the Clinton Placemakers as a way to “kiss off winter and welcome spring,” according to organizer John Allen. The event will feature local musicians, a DJ-run karaoke, and the big draw of the day — a bonfire on the beach starting at 3 p.m.
Refreshments include coffee from Starbucks, pizza from Frank Andrews Mobile Kitchen, and hot chocolate.
Allen said the day is meant for families and kids of all ages. Besides refreshments, there will be games for kids, sign-ups for summer activities like Little League and the Clinton Sailing Club, sign-ups for those interested in the VFW, applications for summer jobs via the park and recreation department, and even shell fishing licenses for sale.
“You can really get a jump on the summer activities here. It will be a family-friendly event where all the great residents of Clinton gather and look forward to the coming summer season,” said Allen.
Allen said the idea for the event is actually something that organizers have been kicking around for two or three years. “we’ve been trying to do something for this kind of dead time in the year in February and March when nothing is really going on. What we know is that people in Clinton like to have a good time. They like coming out and seeing each other and having fun,” said Allen.
This year Allen said things finally came together to hold the event. “We started really organizing it about three months ago, and it was pretty easy getting the ok from parks and rec and the police department and the fire department to do this,” said Allen.
Allen said the event would hopefully serve as a bow on winter in a fun community celebration.
“It’s a casual family fun way to say hello to each other. It’ll be a lot of fun, and we hope folks come down,” said Allen.
