Teskey Appointed to Town Council

CLINTON

Clinton’s Town Council is officially whole again. At a meeting on Feb. 15, the council approved a nomination from the Clinton Democratic Town Committee for Hank Teskey to fill the seat vacated by Christine Goupil last month. Teskey’s term will expire in November.

DTC chairperson Paul Gebauer said that Teskey was the committee’s first choice for the seat.

“We are lucky and proud to have him,” Gebauer said. “Hank is held in high regard by a lot of people around town regardless of party affiliation. He’s a great choice.”

Before the meeting, Teskey said he wanted to join the council “to give back to the community.

“I want to support businesses in town and bring a business averment to town,” said Teskey.

Before serving on the Town Council Teskey served on the town manager search committee. He is currently a member of the Economic Development Commission (EDC), but since the EDC is an appointed board, Teskey can serve on both that commission and the council simultaneously.

Teskey was originally a Republican when he joined the EDC and the search committee but explained to the Harbor News that he is a lifelong Democrat who switched back to being a registered Democrat “two or three years ago.”

“I’m a lifelong Democrat, but I switched briefly to the Republican party to vote in a primary several years ago,” Teskey elaborated.

Teskey now joins fellow Democrats Carrie Allen and Chris Passante on the council and Republicans Chris Aniskovich, Dennis Donovan, Carol Walter, and Tom Hollinger.

The seat Teskey now fills became available after former council member Goupil unexpectedly resigned at the end of January. On Jan. 26, Goupil sent a letter to Executive Assistant Mary Schettino, Town Clerk Sharon Uricchio, and Town Manager Karl Kilduff, in which she announced her resignation effective immediately. Goupil was elected to a four-year seat on the council in 2019.

In her resignation letter, Goupil wrote, “It has been an honor to serve as the last first selectman and as a town councilman these past three years. I’m grateful for the confidence our community has placed in me.”

No reason for her resignation was given at the time, and Goupil did not respond to a request for comment.
