12/02/2022 09:30 AMOn Sunday, Dec. 11 at 3 p.m., those looking to enjoy classic holiday music can attend a performance by Fisson at the Morgan School auditorium for free as part of the George Flynn Classical Concerts series.
The George Flynn Classical Concerts Series is in 25th year of providing free concerts of world class musicians to Clinton residents. According to georgeflynnclassicalconcerts.com, “(t)he George S. Flynn Concerts are made possible by a trust fund Mr. Flynn established in his will. It was his great desire to provide ‘classical music concerts for the benefit, education, and pleasure of the inhabitants of the town of Clinton.’ It is in his honor and to his memory that we dedicate these concerts.” All the concerts in the series are provided for free.
The upcoming concert by the group Frisson is no exception. Per a press release, from the series “In just a few seasons, the Frisson ensemble has skyrocketed to become one of the leading classical music groups, performing at such prestigious venues as the Marlboro and Ravinia Festivals, as well as Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center in New York City.”
According to the release the holiday program will be feature work by Handel, Vivaldi, Bach, Tchaikovsky and traditional Christmas carols and songs. Free tickets must be ordered via the georgeflynnclassicalconcerts.com website.
Elaine Godowsky, the president of the George Flynn Classical Concert Series, “The group is fairly new, buy their repertoire is perfect. We always try and do a holiday concert around this time.”
Godowsky said Frisson consist of 11 musicians playing string instruments. “I think that’s a very beautiful sounds and feeling, almost spiritual,” said Godowsky.
While Godowsky said the group is new, Frisson has already played some prestigious venues and the holiday theme is one that will likely be a big hit with concert attendees. “It’ll be a really nice concert and we’re certainly looking forward to it,” said Godowsky.
Currently, the concert series is in its 25th season and Godowsky said the reviews have been stellar. “Oh my God it’s been great. We’ve had full houses every show. Every concert has been just first rate and that’s what we profess to do. It’s been wonderful,” said Godowsky.
Business After Hours
In order to help spread the word of the concerts, the George Flynn Classical Concert Series will be hosting a business after hours event at Chow in Clinton for members of the Clinton Chamber of Commerce.
“After 25 years people still say, ‘oh I didn’t know you were in Clinton, I didn’t know about this concert’,” said Godowsky.
By hosting the chamber event Godowsky said she hopes the series will connect with some business owners who may not be Clinton residents and that that might help spread the word about future concerts in order for the shows to reach an audience as wide as possible.
