Clinton Seniors Invited to Meet the New Kid on the Block

Christina Acampora, the new senior program coordinator for the town, will be hosting a meet and greet for the community at the Henry Carter Hull Library on Friday, July 15 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

“It will be an informal event designed to give some face time to seniors and talk about resources and programming to come,” Acampora said. “I’m excited to put some faces to the many names that I already have been emailing with and will encourage any senior in town to sign up for my newsletter as different events and activities are starting to come together.”

The event will give seniors and their families the opportunity to talk about the programs and activities they would like to see developed for Clinton. Refreshments will be served and, weather permitting, games and music will also be played.

“I am also working on a dining discount for seniors at some of our area restaurants, so hopefully a flyer will be ready for distribution by then,” Acompora added.

Under the job description, Acampora works under the town manager to coordinate and to be a point person for all programs meant to serve senior population. This includes marketing, coming up with programming, performing community outreach to find out what is needed, recruiting volunteers, and being the go-to person connecting seniors to relevant town departments as needed. She will also provide regular updates on the town’s senior population.

The position came out a desire by Town Council members to better serve the town’s senior population. For years, some members of the community had complained that senior citizens were under-served in Clinton, especially when compared to what is available in other nearby communities. Following a December 2020 report by a subcommittee on the needs of seniors in Clinton, the Town Council voted unanimously in January 2021 to establish a job for a senior program coordinator to be included in the 2021-’22 budget.
