06/07/2022 04:19 PMThe Chester Sunday Market will return to Main Street starting June 13, while Deep River will see a long-awaited Farmer’s Market starting on the green Saturday, June 18.
In Chester, residents and visitors can expect the same vendors from previous years, providing just about any kind of food that anyone might desire, according to Market Master Susan Hotkowski.
“We have produce, mushrooms, berries, beats, eggs, etc. Pretty much all of our vendors are the same, and have been there, so we have a wide variety. Pretty much anything you need to get, you can get at the market,” she said.
Live musical performances will be part of the event as well, with a different artist for each weekend. Wood-fired pizza from Frank Andrew’s Mobile Kitchen will also be present, and all local merchants that will be open will provide specials on their products and food.
“It’s definitely a destination to go on Sunday. You can do any kind of shopping and just relax and see everybody,” said Hotkowski.
Main Street will be completely closed to vehicle on Sundays from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., running from Route 148 to Maple Street. A community tent under which local non-profit organizations will be able to advocate for their cause will be there throughout the duration of the market. The Chester Sunday Market will run through Oct. 16.
In Deep River, the Farmer’s Market is moving ahead with optimism—and a new, prime location—after previous attempts in recent years fizzled, according to organizer Paul Santowski, due to a lack of a sufficient number of vendors and traffic congestion issues.
“The issue was that there weren’t too many vendors. Secondly, the first location was at the library. Two year later they moved to the Stone House, and again not too many vendors, and people didn’t know where to park,” he said.
The new location of the Farmer’s Market is at the Congregation Church at 1 Church Street, which will provide plenty of parking for visitors, according to Santowski. He said the market will primarily be held on the Union Street side of the Town Green near the church. Vendors expected to be part of the market will include those selling dairy and pork from local farms and locally produced maple syrup. Nest Coffee House will also have a spot at the market as well. Aside from food, arts and crafts projects will also be sold at the market.
The Deep River Farmers Market will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. each Saturday (except muster weekend) through at least Oct. 8.
