Gottlieb Petitioning to Primary Rader for Democratic 98th Assembly District Endorsement

Andy Gottlieb, a 28-year-old Democrat, is seeking petition signatures to call a primary challenge against party-endorsed 98th Assembly District candidate Moira Rader. Rader won the party’s endorsement at convention on May 11.

“I am thrilled to accept the Democratic endorsement for state representative of the 98th District. I am already hard at work, meeting with constituents, connecting with current legislators, and doing the homework needed to be a prepared and effective representative of this wonderful community,” Rader said in a press release. “Together, we have an opportunity to continue and expand upon the great strides Connecticut is making in public education, mental health supports, environmental initiatives, improvements to our infrastructure, thoughtful budgeting, and protecting a woman’s access and right to health care.”

Rader is the current vice chair of the Guilford Board of Education. She formed an exploratory committee in January and, through successful fundraising, has qualified for the Connecticut Citizens’ Election Program.

Gottlieb describes himself as a progressive Democrat and cited climate change, racial justice, educational equity, gun violence prevention, electoral reform, and fair taxation as priorities.

A former intern for U.S. Senator Chris Murphy in Washington and trainee at the European Parliament in Brussels, Gottlieb currently conducts research and legislative analysis in the human rights field. He was also a founding member of the Guilford Human Rights Commission.

“With democracy under threat in the United States and around the world, I’m proud to finally offer voters a real choice as to who represents them in Hartford,” said Gottlieb.

To sign the primary petition by Tuesday, June 7, registered Democrats who live in the 98th District, which includes all of Guilford south of Route 80 as well as the Stony Creek and Pine Orchard sections of Branford, can visit andyct.org or email andyforct@gmail.com. If Gottlieb is successful in attaining ballot access, the primary will take place on Aug. 9.
