Jacobs Beach Campfire Rounds Out DAY Week
The Youth & Family Services Department (GYFS) will hold the last of its DAY Week events at Jacobs Beach on Friday, May 6. The event is open to all Guilford families and presents an opportunity for free community fun under the stars.
Leah Foster, prevention coordinator at DAY and GYFS said the event will be a special night of substance-free socializing in which she hopes residents will take part.
“This event is geared toward Guilford parents, youth and families, and the community as a whole,” said Foster. “We haven’t done this exact event, but we have done similar events during our DAY Week such as the Color Run and Glow Run.”
Foster stressed the need for community events where parents and youth can know that they are in a safe and friendly environment, free from any potential of the influences that sometimes creep into any large gathering.
“This event is important for the DAY coalition because it will invite the community to learn about what we do to reduce youth substance use and promote developmental assets in youth. The event is also an opportunity for families, youth, and community members to learn about how to get involved with our coalition if they are interested in doing so,” Foster said. “This event is an opportunity for youth to enjoy a fun, outdoor, substance-free social event with their peers and community.”
The DAY Week Beach Campfire will be held at Jacobs Beach on Friday, May 6 from 5 to 9 p.m. at the beach pavilion. Music will be provided by Sound Spectrum Entertainment and pizza will be available for purchase from the Naples Pizza food truck. S’mores will be provided by DAY for attendees.
