04/13/2022 09:32 AMIf you’re looking to ease your aching back and to help support the Daniel Hand High School (DHHS) Music Department, now is the time. The DHHS Music Department is excited to announce it will host its annual one-day mattress fundraiser on Sunday, May 1, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Although a mattress sale as a forum for fundraising may seem unusual, this event has been a proven method for organizations and groups like the DHHS Music Department to receive donations to support its programs, according to Stacey Kivel, a DHHS parent and event organizer.
“It is actually a great way to raise money. The first year we had it, it made money. We are hoping with the COVID easing, people will come out and take a look. It is really a generous fundraiser that can really help the department. These are really high-quality mattresses. They are customized, adjustable, high end mattresses.”
For one day only, the high school will be transformed into a mattress showroom. The event is a critical event for the department to gather funding for the many aspects of the program that don’t receive direct funding from taxpayers, according to Kivel.
“People can come in and try them out. There will be a full range of really nice mattresses for anyone to choose from. And luxury pillows as well,” said Kivel. “This is a really important fundraiser, which is essential for the department. This effort will allow the band to purchase uniforms; money goes to the show choir and for travel expenses for the band to be able to play at different venues, for the buses. This also supports band camp and is really important way to support that.”
According to Kivel, there will be 30 different mattress styles on display in all sizes for customers to try, and all priced well below retail. Adjustable power bases, premium pillows, bed frames, and mattress protectors will be available as well.
The brands including Simmons Beautyrest, Therapedic, Southerland, Intellibed, Innomax & Wellsville, and all come with full factory warranties, and are made to order, according to Kivel.
The company organizing the sale, Custom Fundraising Solutions (CFS), first introduced the mattress fundraiser to the Cleveland, Ohio, market in 2005. The company now has more than 100 locations and works with more than 2,000 schools nationwide. The unique business model helps schools raise thousands of dollars in just one day, and to date, the company has given back more than $40 million, according to Jason Glander of CFS.
“Even if you can’t support the band by coming out and buying a mattress, come out and buy a pillow. There are a huge range to choose from,” said Kivel.
DHHS Director of Bands John Gage said enhancing the music experience for students at Hand relies on these critical opportunities to raise funds.
“This fundraiser is important for our students because the money raised will help offset the cost of music trips, equipment, senior music scholarships, guest artists and instructors, festival fees, and so many other things that our band, chorus, and orchestra students are involved in every year,” Gage said. “I encourage everyone in the community to attend this sale because eventually everyone needs a mattress—kids going to college, friends and family looking to replace their mattress.”
Mattresses will be available two to three weeks after the fundraiser. Delivery is available for purchasers and financing is available as well.
The event will be held at DHHS, 286 Green Hill Road in Madison on Sunday, May 1 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information about the sale, visit bit.ly/beds4dhhsmusic22.
