One Dead in Branford Motel Shooting


Branford police are continuing an investigation of an early morning shooting which left one dead in a room at the Branford Motel, 470 Main St. Officers responding to the report located the shooter, who told police he was being robbed at gunpoint in the room. As part of an ongoing investigation, detectives have identified other witnesses and individuals to be interviewed and police are also asking anyone from the public with information concerning this incident to contact them.Pam Johnson/The Sound

Branford police detectives are continuing an investigation following a shooting incident that left one person dead at Branford Motel, 470 East Main Street, earlier this morning. Police said there is no threat to public safety related to the incident, which is in the inital stages of investigation.

Speaking with the press at approximately 10:30 a.m. this morning Branford Deputy Chief of Police John Alves and Lt. Corrianne Carangelo said that, due to the on-going investigation, there were no new details to share beyond information released by the department an hour earlier.

"It came in as a reported shooting at the front desk of the motel," Alves told Zip06/The Sound. "We responded and found the person involved, who admitted his involvment in the shooting; he was the shooter. He said it occured in [the] room. We went up there and located the deceased."

The name of the deceased was not released pending identification and notification of next of kin.

According to details released earlier by Branford Police Department (BPD) on Facebook, the shooter also told responding officers he had been robbed by the victim at gunpoint. When entering the motel room, police found an armed male who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Branford Fire Department medics attempted to provide treatment but determined the male was deceased. Police identified all people involved in the incident, including additional witnesses who were set to be interviewed. Police did not release identities of the individuals involved.
