03/17/2022 12:01 AMAccording to the Shoreline Times from Feb. 23, 1922, there was a car crash on Clapboard Hill Road. Sometime in mid-February, William Clevinsky, Harry Mease, and John Koppleman were driving through Guilford in Clevinsky’s Franklin automobile. The men were employees of the Touraine Chocolate Company in Boston and were transporting chocolates and money to New Haven.
On Clapboard Hill Road, the car skidded due to slippery road conditions and hit a telephone pole. The car was demolished and sample chocolates were strewn across the road. A large sum of money held in the car was also reported missing, according to the Shoreline Times. No serious injuries or fatalities occurred. However, the men sustained broken bones, bruises, and cuts and were transported to New Haven Hospital.
