02/16/2022 11:01 PMThe Chester Community Partnership is pleased to announce that the Town of Chester was awarded a $5,000 grant from the Community Foundation of Middlesex County (CFMC) earlier this month. The purpose of this grant is to expand the 211-Chester Program and address the digital divide in our community.
The grant includes the following activities; 1) identify Chester households that currently do not have access to technology; 2) assist interested households with an application to either Comcast/Xfinity Internet Essentials or to Credo Mobile; 3) purchase computers/Internet service or smart phone/cellular service for 20 eligible households; and 4) create mentorship program to teach digital literacy.
The Chester Community Partnership hopes to partner with Valley Regional High School to add students to its existing Tech Team. The partnership is in conversation with the Chester Police Department to be certain that how to avoid online fraud is included in the digital literacy program.
Those interested in volunteering for the Tech Team can contact Jenny Watrous at adminassistant@chesterct.org or 860-526-0013, x202. Volunteer training will be provided. More detailed information the 211-Chester Program will be available in March.
CFMC is the Chester Community Partnership’s major sponsor and a champion of its work. Because of many residents of the community have given the gift of time, the partnership has also been able to successfully launch the COVID-19 Vaccine Assistance Program and the Chester Food Program and will now expand the 211-Chester Program. The partnership is now more than 60 volunteers strong.
