NHPS Registering Future Class of 2035 for Kindergarten
It is time for the future Class of 2035 to register for kindergarten with North Haven Public Schools (NHPS). Kindergarten registration officially opened on Jan. 3 through an online portal available at northhavenschools.org.
“Numbers are changing daily, but at this time it is trending consistently to past years,” said Superintendent Patrick Stirk. “We are excited to welcome our newest learners to the North Haven Public Schools.”
To register a student, visit ecollect.accelaschool.com/northhaven. In order to register a child for kindergarten, all students need a current physical and medical forms, which can be printed from the district website and completed by the child’s physician. If the child will not be five years old before Sept. 1, a copy of the child’s most recent physical may be used. The medical form can be submitted at a later date if your child will have a physical between April 7 and Aug. 31.
Required documents to complete registration include a birth certificate with a raised seal and three forms of proof of residency, which can include a driver’s license, mortgage statement or rental contract, or utility bills. Due to COVID restrictions, all documents are to be uploaded. The birth certificate is under residency/birth verification and health forms are under Medical Forms for New Registrants.
Families will then receive an email with PowerSchool login information and need to create an account to complete registration forms. Those who are unsure which school their child will attend can search their address on the “District Schools by Street Name” tab.
Once registration is complete, families can view the “Welcome to Kindergarten” presentation for their student’s school, which has been created by each school’s principal. The presentations include information for students and their parents about what to expect in the school day and throughout the year. There are also lists of resources for learning.
Students coming into the NHPS district from another school should print the “Release of Records” form on the district website and submit to their previous school. North Haven Middle School and North Haven High School require a pre-registration appointment for all paperwork to be submitted prior to the registration appointment with a counselor to schedule classes.
While this is no deadline for registration, parents and guardians are encouraged to register students by March 20 as kindergarten screenings will be scheduled at the child’s school. Information on kindergarten screenings is expected to be sent to registered families in April.
Stirk noted that there are no prerequisite skills needed to enter kindergarten.
“We work to meet the needs of each individual student and realize that our youngest learners come in at all different levels,” said Stirk. “Our goal is to provide a developmentally age-appropriate kindergarten experience for all.”
