Guilford Man One of Two to Perish in Fatal I-95 Accident
State Police are reporting a fatal wrong-way accident that occurred Jan. 16 on I-95 in Guilford that resulted in two fatalities. According to State Police officials, the accident happened at approximately 10:45 p.m. on the northbound lanes between exits 56-57 in Guilford.
A statement released by the Connecticut State Police said that a 2018 Toyota Highlander traveling northbound in the northbound lane between exits 56 and 57 was struck head-on by a 2011 Toyota Highlander that was traveling south in the northbound lane on I-95. According to police, Jose Dias, 35, of Providence, Rhode Island was driving the northbound vehicle and Klever Cordova, 46, of Guilford, was traveling south, the wrong way on the highway, when the vehicles collided and came to a rest in the left travel lane.
Dias was taken to Yale New Haven Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Cordova was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.
The incident remains active and the State Police are currently investigating. They ask any witnesses to the crash or anyone with information to contact Trooper Green or Trooper Roland of Connecticut State Police Troop F at 860-399-2150.
