12/07/2021 02:40 PMIn the Nov. 23 issue of the Courier, readers were introduced to local couple Karen and Sean Gargamelli-McCreight, who are hoping to transform their recently purchased property along Route 77 into an ecology and education center. The property, formerly known as Fisherman’s Nook, is being renovated to accommodate a number of concepts for the couples dream of operating a facility dedicated to both the environmental and agricultural heritage of Guilford.
In order to begin welcoming students and guests to stay in the new Dan Berrigan Center this spring, the Gargamelli-McCreights need to complete extensive renovations on the barn and other out buildings.
They are hosting an upcoming community work day, Saturday, Dec. 11 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the property located at on Durham Road (Route 77), just south of Route 80. Those able to support these efforts in person or through tax-deductible monetary donations should contact Sean Gargamelli-McCreight at sean@benincasanyc.org.
The Gargamelli-McCreights are seeking assistance installing two or three wood burning stoves; dragging, chopping, and stacking firewood for the stoves; sourcing two or three composting toilets; and upgrading the electrical supply and panel, ideally with an eye to eventually run primarily on solar. All materials, ideas, and installation efforts are welcome.
