Blue Star Memorial Achieves Award of Excellence for Civic Development
The Blue Star Memorial on the Town Green was recognized with the Award of Excellence for Civic Development by The Federated Garden Clubs of Connecticut, Inc., during the annual awards presentations this fall. The memorial honors military men and women who have served, are currently serving, and those who will serve in the future. The Daytime Gardeners initiated the installation of the memorial plaque in 2018 and the program is jointly sponsored by the club, Arnold’s Jewelers, and The Gould Insurance Group, with the cooperation of the town.
The Blue Star Memorial features appropriate decorations throughout the year. Brenda Howlett attached the ribbons for the Veterans Day Ceremony that was held Nov. 13. These ribbons will be replaced with holiday swags for the winter. During the spring and summer, the gardeners will arrange red and white stripes of begonias with blue angelonia to represent the field of stars on the American flag. The club encourages those visiting the Town Green to stop by the Blue Star Memorial to remember and honor our military personnel, and to enjoy the seasonal decorations.
The Daytime Gardeners welcome new members. For more information, email proto.mary@yahoo.com.
