11/29/2021 11:00 PMAccording to the charter of the Town of East Haven, a reorganization meeting must be held following municipal elections in order to create the schedule of meetings for the next calendar year and appoint members to various roles. The special reorganization meeting was held on Nov. 22 at the Senior Center.
“To me, it means the beginning of the next chapter,” said Mayor Joe Carfora.
In 2022, Town Council meetings will be held on the first Tuesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. at the Community Center/Senior Center at 91 Taylor Avenue. If the meetings include a public hearing, they will begin at 7 p.m. Meeting dates for 2022 include Jan. 4, Feb. 1, March 1, April 5, May 3, June 7, July 5, Aug. 2, Sept. 6, Oct. 4, Nov. 1, and Dec. 6.
The meeting schedule for the East Haven Town Council Administrative Service Committee was also determined. The purpose of this meeting is to set the agenda for the Town Council meeting that follows it. The meeting is attended by the clerk and the chair.
The East Haven Town Council Administrative Service Committee will meet on the last Monday of each month one week prior to the first Tuesday of the following month. Meetings will be held at Town Hall, 250 Main Street, at 6 p.m. Meeting dates include Jan. 24, Feb. 22, March 28, April 25, May 23 (due to Memorial Day), June 27, July 27, Aug. 29, Sept. 26, Oct. 24, Nov. 28, and Dec. 26.
In addition to setting the dates for 2022 meetings, the Town Council appointed members to various positions. Roberta Deluca was first appointed as temporary clerk before being appointed permanent clerk later in the meeting. Alberta Vitale was appointed Republican Registrar of Voters to finish the term from Donna Norman. Cynthia Sparago was appointed to fill the unexpired term of Karen Martin on the Zoning Board of Appeals through Jan. 31, 2023.
Elections were held for chairman and vice chairman of the Town Council. Joe Deko was again elected as chairman and Lou Pacelli as vice chairman.
“This is so appropriate. Their leadership during the last two years, given so many unique challenges, was remarkable,” said Carfora. “I look forward to working with both of them as we march on together.”
Town Attorney Michael Luzzi also gave an review of Town Council policies, standing rules, pertinent Freedom of Information Act provisions, and relevant procedures.
