09/02/2021 12:00 AMHave you been enjoying the free summer music series on the Branford green? Well stay tuned -- four new "Music Mondays" featuring Tuxedo Junction; and an extended schedule of Thursday nights featuring local live music, will continue to let the music play on the Branford green in September and the first two weeks of October, hosted by the Town of Branford and Branford Parks and Recreation.
The series of free shows began playing to appreciative, growing crowds of community members on Thursday nights in June. To keep the music going, the Thursday night line-up has been extended and a very special set of Monday night performances, featuring swing dance band Tuxedo Junction, has been added, said Colin Sheehan, Arts, Culture and Special Events and Programs Coordinator for the Town of Branford.
Beginning Monday, Sept. 13 and continuing on Mondays through Oct. 4, multi-piece Tuxedo Junction will bring its tradition of holding big band rehearsals that are free and open to the public to the Branford green, playing in the early evening from 5:45 - 7 p.m., said Sheehan.
The complete schedule of Tuxedo Junction's "Music Mondays" on the Branford green will include the band coming to town to play Monday, Sept. 13; Monday, Sept. 20; Monday, Sept. 27 and Monday, Oct. 4. All events are 5:45 p.m. - 7 p.m., weather permitting.
In addition, Sheehan has lined up more music to continue this summer's popular Thursday night free music on the green program, featuring live local bands. All shows are 5 – 7 p.m., weather permitting, including the Wango Tango Band on Thurs., Sept. 2; Jeff Fuller & Friends Thurs. Sept. 9; Midlife Crisis Band on Thurs. Sept. 16; Yesteryear Thurs. Sept. 23 and Nick Sporviero on Thurs. Sept. 30. October kicks off with DJ Dennis Nardella of Nardella's Music Company of Branford spinning tunes on the green Thurs., Oct. 7, followed by the final live band performance for 2021 on Thurs. Oct. 14, featuring local band Lunchbox.
"At that point, music on the green will then be coming to an end for 2021, due to it getting darker earlier and the weather getting cooler," said Sheehan. "But we're lucky we have these dates into the fall to still support our local musicians and bring events to the green on Mondays and Thursdays."
Music lovers are also encouraged to support local businesses, such as purchasing dinner from a restaurant to enjoy before a show (or to take out to enjoy on green). It's also a good idea to bring blankets and/or chairs for seating for the music events -- the Town of Branford's popular bistro tables and chairs on the green fill up fast.
