Welcome Signs a Collaborative Effort

New “Welcome to Guilford” signs have recently been installed at exits 57 and 58. As part of economic development and heritage tourism, these signs direct visitors to the heart of the town and areas of interest.

The idea for these welcome signs originated in 2016, as part of the Guilford Preservation Alliance heritage tourism initiative. Former economic development coordinator (EDC) Brian McGlone and the current EDC, Mike Meisel, were assisted in this collaborative effort with members from the Guilford Preservation Alliance, the Shoreline Arts Alliance, the Shoreline Chamber of Commerce, local realtors, and several others who work together to promote Guilford, to drive tourists and residents to our community to explore-shop-dine while enjoying our community.

The State of Connecticut was consulted relating to the language and placement of the signs. Money was raised from a wide diverse base including lawyers, contractors, private individuals, the Guilford Foundation, and a substantial donation from the GPA. One additional sign is currently on order, and the committee is currently raising money for three additional signs, which will allow for six welcome signs on the approach to Guilford from I-95.

To donate, mail a check to the Guilford Preservation Alliance with a note that is it is for signage and mail it to P.O. Box 199, Guilford, Connecticut.
