George Flynn Concerts Return to Clinton Live and In-Person
It’s finally back: The renowned George Flynn Classical Concert Series is back for its 24th season—in person—starting with Vince Giordano and the Nighthawks featuring the Honey Taps on Sunday, Aug. 15 at The Morgan School.
The George Flynn concerts are a staple of the Clinton arts community. In a typical year, the series holds several filled-to-capacity concerts featuring world famous musicians from both near and far. The concerts in the series are provided for free thanks to a trust established in 1997 by the late Clinton resident George Flynn.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, no shows could be held in person during 2020 and the first half of 2021. Instead, last year a collection of recordings of past shows was made available for viewing online.
However, after nearly 20 months off, live concerts are back for what series president Elaine Godowsky calls “a monumental 24th season.”
Godowsky said that the season will consist of six concerts and from August to April 2022. The shows will be split between the auditorium at The Morgan School and one at Town Hall.
With the first concert coming up on Aug. 15 at 4 p.m. at The Morgan School, Godowsky said “we wanted to have a happy kind of concert to get people excited again about live music.”
Getting people excited for the George Flynn concerts is not something the series usually has to worry about once people realize the caliber of musicians.
“These are all first-class musicians. Some people think we’re just a little local group and it’s hard to get that fact across to them sometimes,” said Godowsky.
Godowsky is eager to have live music back after nearly two years off.
“Live music is always so much better and that’s what we strive for,” she said.
New this year, all tickets for the concerts must be reserved on the series’ website georgeflynnclassicalconcerts.com. The shows are free to attend.
