'Wearing of the Green' Begins July 19 at The Connecticut Hospice
July 19, 2021: The Connecticut Hospice rolled out a new scrubs initiative today for all clinical staff. The bright green colored scrubs, embroidered with the CT Hospice logo and each staff member's position, replaces a rainbow of colors that were designated by job role.
Newly appointed COO, Betty Brennan, RN, BSN, believes the new scrubs represent the energized atmosphere that began growing earlier this year. "Green is one of the best colors for scrubs when providing hospice care as it is associated with peace and tranquility. And, when The Connecticut Hospice staff are caring for hospice patients at other facilities (nursing homes, hospitals) the green stands out."
The Connecticut Hospice is a 501(c)(3) not for profit, was established in 1974 as the result of America's hospice movement. Forty-seven years later, it continues to set the national standard for home and inpatient hospice care and has become a leader in palliative care. The Connecticut Hospice provides hospice care in patients' homes, nursing home facilities, area hospitals, and at its inpatient Branford facility, with an inter-disciplinary team that is medically-directed and nurse-coordinated. Together, physicians, nurses, pharmacists, social workers, clergy, artists, and trained volunteers actively assist each patient and family to navigate the myriad of challenges surrounding irreversible illness.
Back in early 2019, Barbara Pearce, President and CEO, and Joseph Mooney, CFO, were hired by the Board of Directors to strengthen the organization in preparation to reclaim its choice provider status in what has become a fiercely competitive market. After several major financial and operational changes, adding Betty's clinical expertise to the organization now, is perfect timing as The Connecticut Hospice advances into an exciting future.
