Winners Announced in Old Saybrook Park & Rec’s 1st Active Community Challenge
On May 20, Old Saybrook Parks & Recreation (OSPR) announced the winners of the Step Away from Winter active challenge. This was a new program that came out of the pandemic and was the first active community challenge the department has offered. Thirty-one participants, aged 9 to 74, participated in the six-week challenge to log as many steps as they could. The purpose of the challenge was to get people moving outside and step away those cold winter blues.
With the weather and pandemic keeping everyone stuck and isolated indoors, OSPR wanted to develop a program to bring people outside for some fresh air. The program started on the first day of spring, March 20, and ended in May.
Then using a smart device and the ChallengeRunner app and website, participants competed for the top prizes, which included $200 to SoundRunner, $100 to Penny Lane Pub, or $50 to Atlantic Seafood. All our winners received a spa package from Kur Cryotherapy and Recovery Spa as well.
OSPR congratulates the following winners: Frank Cosenza, third place; Maggie Stroili, second place; and Erica Cosenza, first place. OSPR thank all its program sponsors for their support and generosity.
