05/14/2021 12:00 AMMay 13, 2021: The Connecticut Hospice recently celebrated Nurses Day 2021 (May 6th) with the introduction of new Chief Operating Officer, Betty Brennan, RN, BSN, to staff during a nurses' luncheon.
Brennan, who lives in Stamford, initially started out as a volunteer in early 2021, educating the clinical staff in weekly Dementia training workshops. As Betty spent more time with the staff, she knew she wanted to play a part in the future of America's first hospice.
With over forty years' experience in the health care services field, including the creation, building, and selling of two successful health care organizations, Brennan brings the clinical expertise that will cement Connecticut Hospice as the hospice and palliative care provider at both the regional and national levels.
The Connecticut Hospice is a 501(c)(3) not for profit, was established in 1974 as the result of America's hospice movement. Forty-seven years later, it continues to set the national standard for home and inpatient hospice care and has become a leader in palliative care. The Connecticut Hospice provides hospice care in patients' homes and at its inpatient Branford facility with an inter-disciplinary team that is medical-directed and nurse-coordinated. Together, physicians, nurses, pharmacists, social workers, clergy, artists, and trained volunteers actively assist each patient and family to navigate the myriad of challenges surrounding irreversible illness.
Back in early 2019, Barbara Pearce, President and CEO, and Joseph Mooney, CFO, were hired by the Board of Directors to strengthen the organization in preparation to reclaim its choice provider status in what has become a fiercely competitive market. After several major financial and operational changes, adding Brennan's clinical expertise to the organization now, is perfect timing as The Connecticut Hospice advances into an exciting future.
