COVID Case at Valley Regional High School Affects 19 Others


A case of COVID-19 at Valley Regional High School (VRHS) moved operations online on April 5, so that local health departments could conduct contract tracing, according to the Regional 4 School District.

The high school returned to the school building for in-person classes the next day, April 6. A total of 19 students were asked to quarantine as a result of the case.

COVID-19 in Chester, Deep River, Essex

The state’s COVID-19 data, as of April 7, shows a decline in the average daily rate of cases in Chester and Essex. This data is from the two-week period beginning on March 21 and ending on April 3. It does not include cases in nursing homes or assisted living facilities.

Chester was shown in grey, the lowest category on the state’s COVID-19 alert map, having had 4 cases with an average daily rate of 6.8 during this time period, according to the state data.

Essex was shown in yellow, the second lowest category, with 8 cases and an average daily rate of 8.6 during this time period, according to the state data.

Deep River was shown in red, the highest alert category, with 14 cases and an average daily rate of 22.4, according to the state data.

A total of 141 of the 169 towns in the state were identified in the red alert category, as of April 7.

COVID-19 Vaccine Administration

Inoculation of residents against COVID-19 is happening at a steady pace in Chester, Deep River and Essex.

The state’s data, as of April 7, showed that at least half of all residents in Chester, Deep River and Essex have received the first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.

In Essex, the data showed 60.48 percent of residents have received the first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. In Deep River, it was 51.20 percent. In Chester, it was 51.48 percent.

The state data also shows that 49 percent of the residents in Connecticut over the age of 16 have received at least one dose, as of April 7. This includes 82 percent of those 65 years and older, 69 percent of those 55 to 64 years old, 51 percent of those 45 to 54 years old, and 23 percent of those 16 to 44 years old.
