Deceased Man Found on Branford's Stony Creek Trail Near Guilford
Police have provided more details following a late afternoon report issued March 4 of a body found in a marsh in Stony Creek. The body has been further identified as a deceased male, found by hikers on the Branford Trail in Stony Creek near the Guilford town line at approximately 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 4. The man's identity was not provided pending notification of his family.
Police issued the update at approximately 2 a.m. via its Branford Police Department Facebook page, following a notice issued at approximately 4 p.m. on March 4 regarding heightened police activity in the area due to an investigation of the discovery of a body. Police ask for the community's patience while the investigation into the incident continues and further note there is no known public threat connected to the incident.
In the March 5 update to the public, Branford Police stated: "On 03-04-2021 at approximately 2 p.m., a body was reported to police by hikers in Stony Creek. Branford Police and Fire departments responded and located a deceased adult male just off the Branford Trail near the Guilford town line. Branford Police detectives worked in conjunction with the CT State Police Major Crimes Division to process the scene and identify the individual. At this time, the individual's identity is not being released pending notification to the family involved.
The deceased was transported to the Office of the Chief's State Medical examiner to determine a cause and manner of death. We thank the community's patience while we continue this investigation. There is no known threat to public safety."
