Guilford Teen Club Holding Winter Gear Drive
The Guilford Teen IRIS Club, a group of high school and middle school students who support immigrants and refugees in the area, is holding a winter gear drive this week at Page Hardware.
Club members will be outside the store from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Oct. 10, according to Club President Claire Pringle, but are also leaving a donation box in front of the store through Monday, Oct. 12 for anyone who wants to leave a donation.
The club is requesting new or gently used boots and heavy winter coats as well as earbuds, according to Pringle. The items will be distributed to immigrant and refugee students served by the New Haven-based non-profit IRIS. The club is not collecting gloves, scarves, or hats this year, according to Pringle.
IRIS sponsors, houses, and helps employee hundreds of immigrant and refugee families around the state, according to its website irisct.org.
