Republicans, Democrats in Clinton, Old Saybrook, and Westbrook Can Vote in Presidential Primary on Aug. 11
Registered Democrats and Republicans in Clinton, Westbrook, and Old Saybrook can cast their votes for their preferred Presidential candidates on Tuesday, Aug. 11 at the party primaries. Polls are open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. People can also vote via absentee ballots thanks to a drop box located at the front of each town hall.
The primary is open only to registered Republicans or Democrats. Thursday, Aug. 6 is the deadline for new or unaffiliated voters to register to vote via the absentee ballots. New voters choosing to vote in person can register up until noon on Monday, Aug. 10. Those unsure of their party affiliation or seeking information on registering can call their registrars of voters (listed below).
Registered Democrats can cast a vote for Joe Biden, Bernie Sanders, Tulsi Gabbard, or uncommitted in the Presidential race.
Registered Republicans’ choices are Donald Trump, Roque “Rocky” De La Fuente, or uncommitted for the presidential race. For the Representative in Congress, Republicans have a choice between Thomas Gilmer and Justin Anderson.
Those voting in person should report to their appropriate polling place, listed below.
Absentee ballots are available from each Town Clerk’s Office; each town’s information is listed below. Voters may also download an absentee ballot application from the secretary of the state website www.sots.ct.gov. Absentee ballots may be returned by mail or at the drop box in front of their town hall.
Clinton Town Clerk Sharon Uricchio said the ballot box is checked for ballots and emptied periodically during the day.
Uricchio wanted to stress that voters can still vote in person if they wish.
“Everyone thinks the polls are closed, they’re not,” said Uricchio.
Uricchio said that masks will be required to vote in person, and there will be markers placed every six feet to make sure proper social distancing protocols are followed. The registrars will be cleaning machines in between each use and disposable pencils will be used for in-person voting.
