07/09/2020 12:00 AMJuly 8, 2020: The James Blackstone Memorial Library will open its doors to the public on a limited basis beginning Monday, July 13. Currently, the library offers contactless pickup of books and other items, and delivery for homebound patrons. Holds can be placed through the online catalog, or by calling the library at 203-488-1441 extension 318 or emailing holds@blackstonelibrary.org. When your order is ready, you will be contacted to schedule your pickup. The book (and audiovisual) drop in the rear of the building remains open for returns.
With the next step in reopening, the library will continue to offer contactless pickup of materials, but will also welcome a limited number of people into the building to use the Computer Lab, or if under 18 years of age, computers in the Teen Area. Sessions will be limited to one hour per day, and will be scheduled during set session times, allowing for staff to clean and sanitize the work stations in between sessions.
Only the Computer Lab and Teen Area are open to the public. After check in, you may proceed directly to your designated computer area, and leave the building when your session is over.
The library will accept reservations for computer use up to one day in advance. If you have an appointment, please wait outside of the library until 5 minutes prior to your scheduled time slot. Upon entering the building, you will be checked in at the lobby desk.
Masks will be required to be worn while inside the library, and hand sanitizer will be available upon entering the building and computer lab. The water fountain and restrooms will be unavailable. Everyone is expected to maintain social distancing while in the building, though up to two people in a family unit are welcome to sit together at a computer station. If you have additional accessibility needs, please let the library know when scheduling an appointment.
To make an appointment to use a computer or fax service, please call the Reference department at 203-488-1441 extension 318. Printing and faxing will also be available. You can pay for prints or faxes with exact change, check, or credit card.
If you only need to print, you can send your print job to the library directly from your phone, tablet, or computer. Visit blackstonelibrary.org/print-from-home to learn more. A staff member will contact you when the job is complete to make arrangements for payment and contactless pickup.
All new requirements and procedures are in place in accordance with the State of Connecticut's guidelines for reopening. Staff at the Blackstone Library are excited to take this next step in safely offering increased service and support to the Branford community.
