05/05/2020 04:00 PMFor the first time in a decade, Clinton’s Grand List of Taxable Property increased by more than one percent, driven by growth in all three categories: real estate, personal property (primarily business equipment), and motor vehicles. The overall Grand List increased by 1.2 percent from Oct. 1, 2018 to Oct. 1, 2019.
The total tax revenue from the increase is $573,266. The Grand List is composed of all the taxable property located in the town on Oct. 1 of any given year.
Real estate is the town’s largest taxable category and accounted for $1,379,475,554 (about a $17,848,186 or 1.2 percent increase), personal property accounted for $68,580,814 (about a $5,175,415 or 8.2 percent increase, and motor vehicles accounted for $105,288,371 (about a $3,774,833 or 3.71 percent increase.)
Assessor Donna Sempey said that the increase in the overall Grand List can be attributed to “new construction in town, CVS, Tidewater Village (41 new homes), and several new commercial buildings.”
The large jump in personal property specifically is due to “several new stores in Clinton Crossings, CVS, and leasehold improvements (renovation),” she noted.
Most of the top 10 taxpayers in town have remained the same as in the previous year, however the dollar amounts have changed.
