05/02/2020 12:00 AMSince March 23, non-profit Feed Branford Kids (FBK) has pivoted to assist the community during the COVID-19 pandemic, by offering free bags of quick-serve kids' weekend meals and snacks to all Branford families in need. The bags are available for pickup with curbside delivery at two places every week; no registration or advance notice is required.
While many families are responding the offer, FBK president Kristine Klarman said more are certainly welcome.
"It has been a month since we started the program and we have had a decent turn out of people each week [but] members of the board are concerned that we aren't reaching as many people that we could be," said Klarman.
Any Branford family with kids can stop in to receive bags from FBK on Mondays from 3 to 5 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church on the Branford Town Green, and Thursdays from 5 to 7 p.m., at FBK's warehouse, 21 Business Park Drive. Each bag contains two servings each of milk and juice, two breakfasts, two lunches and two snacks.
With help from Branford Board of Education, FBK is also delivering bags weekly to the homes of over 180 Branford kids registered to receive the service during the school year. All volunteer non-profit FBK is relying on monetary donations to keep up the effort. Donations can be made online at www.feedbranfordkids.org or by Venmo.
