Registration is Open for 2020 North Haven PTA Road Race
On your mark, get set, go register for the North Haven PTA Road Race on Sunday, April 5. Proceeds from the race will be used to fund arts and science programs at all six North Haven Schools.
The race begins and ends at North Haven Middle School and parking is available at North Haven High School located at 221 Elm Street. Registration and check in begins at 9 a.m.
“This year it’s even bigger than it had been,” said race organizer Stacey O’Connor.
The race is open to runners of all ages via three different events. There’s a fun lap for kids aged five and under at 9:45 a.m., a one-mile race that starts at 10 a.m., and a 5K that starts at 10:30 a.m. DJs, vendors, food trucks, and other activities will also be on scene for race day.
Early registration for the event runs until Sunday, March 22. The early registration prices are $5 for the fun lap, $20 for the one-mile race and $30 for the 5K. After that the prices jump to $7 for the kids lap, $23 for the one-mile race, and $35 for the 5K.
This is the third year the race is being held. The first year it was staged as a color run and didn’t include every school. Organizers scrapped the color run idea and instead expanded the race to include the other schools in the town.
“We’re really trying to gear it towards kids,” O’Connor said, adding that different costume characters from super heroes to Disney characters will be at the race.
The organizers see the road race as different from typical PTA fundraisers and one that will bring more people together.
“Someone saw an idea for one online and I started researching it. We thought it would be a fun fundraiser idea and a way to get people and kids involved,” said O’Connor.
Online registration can be found at lightboxreg.com (search “north haven”). Those interested in volunteering or seeking more information can email Stacey O’Connor at djosms410@aol.com.
