09/30/2019 12:00 AMOn Tuesday, September 24, 2019 the North Branford Board of Police Commissioners, along with North Branford Chief of Police Kevin Halloran, held a swearing-in ceremony for newly appointed Deputy Chief James Lovelace.
Deputy Chief James Lovelace is a 14 and a half year veteran of the department, first hired in 2004. He was promoted to Patrol Sergeant in 2012 and to the rank of Lieutenant in 2016, which was then followed by a nine-month term as the department's Interim Chief of Police, from June 2018 - May 2019.
Deputy Chief Lovelace holds a B.S. in Criminal Justice from Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Connecticut. He is currently working on completing his Master's degree with a focus on Public Administration. He recently attended the Police Executive Research's Senior Management Institute for Police at Boston College, one of the most advanced police executive leadership/management training programs in the U.S. He will also be attending a 10-week program at the FBI's National Academy, which covers coursework in intelligence theory, terrorism and terrorist minders and management science.
Deputy Chief Lovelace is a member of both the South Central Regional SWAT team and the South Central Regional Traffic Unit.
In 2014, Deputy Chief Lovelace received the Exchange Club's Shoreline Hero Award. He also volunteers his time within the surrounding communities as well as in North Branford. Congratulations and best of luck Deputy Chief Lovelace.
