Arrest Made in Fatal North Haven March Hit-and-Run
North Haven Police have arrested 40 year old Mark Rubino, 40, of Meriden, who has been charged in the March 31 hit-and-run that killed Maureen Munzner, 57, of North Haven as she was walking with her two children on Ridge Road.
On March 11, North Haven Police responded to the area of Ridge Road near Hickory Hill, for a report of a car accident involving a pedestrian being struck. The suspect had fled the scene of the accident. The South Central Connecticut Traffic Unit (SCCTU) responded to the scene and initiated an investigation.
SCCTU consists of Police Officers from the East Haven Police Department, North Branford Police Department, Madison Police Department, Branford Police Department, and North Haven Police Department.
North Haven Officer Marcus Artaiz was the lead investigator and worked in collaboration with his SCCTU partners as well as surrounding towns, to develop a suspect.
Shortly after the incident, investigators located and seized a red Ford Fusion as evidence and identified the driver has been, according to police. The driver had called 911 reporting he struck a deer on Mount Carmel Road. His vehicle had serious front end damage and a smashed windshield. Additionally, the driver gave inconsistent stories regarding his travel pattern.
Over the coming months, Artaiz and SCCTU interviewed numerous witness, reviewed surveillance footage, obtained multiple search warrants, and collected physical evidence to be examined by the State Forensic Laboratory. Through his investigation, Artaiz was able to secure an arrest warrant for Rubino.
Today, July 5, North Haven Detectives took Rubino into custody. Rubino is currently being held on a $50,000 court-set bond. Rubino was charged with evasion of responsibility in operating a motor vehicle causing death, misconduct with a motor vehicle, no insurance, and failure to drive in proper Lane.
