Daytime Gardeners Share at Summer Reading Program Kick-Off
The Daytime Gardeners participated in the kick-off event for the North Haven Library’s Summer Reading Program Kick-off event on June 15, sharing plants with the children and providing information for interested adults. Children were invited to choose a marigold they liked, plant it in a cup, give it some water, and take it home to plant in their garden. Adults asked questions about the plants in their yard, how to get rid of pesky weeds, when to prune hydrangea, and how to propagate favorite plants. Photos illustrated some of the projects that the club members prepare for youth activities, and samples of propagation from leaf cuttings were available to show how a new plant can be started from a leaf.
