The curtains will soon go up on Curtains, A Musical Comedy Whodunit presented by North Branford High School (NBHS) Drama Club in the NBHS Auditorium for three performances Thursday to Saturday, April 4 to 6.

Directed by Cindy Genzano with assistance from Musical Director/NBHS Music Teacher Nick Filippides, the show features an all-student cast of 25 who bring this Broadway musical comedy to town, with singing and dancing supported by a live pit orchestra.

Genzano’s pool of theatrical assistance includes her daughter, Robyn Genzano, who directed a young adult troupe in Curtains during one of Cindy Genzano’s summer theater programs in East Haven.

“She was the one who came up with this show. We put it on in East Haven, and it was great. The music was fantastic, the story line was great, it’s funny...There’s so much about it that’s really great,” said Genzano. “Also, there are so many characters in it, and we have great players for those characters.”

Set in 1959, after a not-so-talented lead actress (played by Candice Opie) is murdered upon opening night of Robbin’ Hood of the Old West, the cast and crew are suspects. Enter Lieutenant Detective Frank Cioffi (Ian McLay), who loves to solve crimes but also has a yen for theater. As a new lead (Christina Riggione) emerges, pushed into the job by the show’s savvy director (Juliana Candelora), the actors and crew get back to work, while also being locked in the theater by the detective.

“While he’s investigating the mystery, they’re rehearsing their show. So it’s back to back sequences, and the audience is trying to figure out who the murderer is,” said Genzano.

And, of course, there’s a plot twist at the end, “like all good murder mysteries,” said Genzano.

NBHS Drama Club presents three performances of Curtains: Thursday, April 4 at 6:30 p.m., Friday April 5 at 7 p.m., and Saturday April 6 at 7 p.m. in the NBHS auditorium at 654 Foxon Road.

All tickets for the Thursday, April 4 performance are $8. Advance ticket prices for Friday, April 5 and Saturday April 6 are $12 adults and $10 kids/seniors ($14 adults and $12 kids/seniors at the door on show nights).
