Spring is a Busy Season for Madison Beach & Rec
Spring is here, which means it is time to start thinking about beaches, walks in the park, sports programs, and all other outdoor activities that the Town of Madison offers. Did you know that the Madison Beach & Recreation Department has responsibility for almost every activity along our beaches, in our parks, and on our trails, and sport fields? This includes Bauer Park, Salt Meadow Park, Rockland Preserve, The Surf Club, West Wharf and East Wharf beaches, and our many athletic fields (Strong, Academy, Jaycee, Lowrey, Nelson, Green Hill, Town Campus, and Exchange fields), as well as the senior, youth, and adult sports programs at the Town Gym.
Most of these activities are developed, implemented, and managed by the Madison Beach & Recreation Department. Beach & Recreation has both full time and seasonal staff. The department is assisted and guided in developing policies by a five-member commission established by the Madison Town Charter. This commission is made up of citizens of Madison; current members are Rob Card, Vince Dussich, Pam Greene, Shane Kokoruda, and Mary Pat Nardino.
The commission meets the first Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m. at the Town Campus. All are welcome to attend and contribute thoughts, ideas, or suggestions. Readers may visit the Beach & Recreation website at www.madisonct.org for a list of programs and events. They can also simply link from this page to report a concern or idea. The commission would appreciate hearing from residents. Enjoy the summer!
