CDR Names Home Delivery Program in Honor of Branford's Besty Klarman
On Saturday March 2, family and friends gathered at the Community Dining Room (CDR) in Branford to honor the late Betsy Klarman, by celebrating the official naming of CDR's home food delivery program as The Besty Klarman Home Delivery Program.
In addition to the naming celebration in Klarman's honor on March 2, State Senator Christine Cohen and State Representatives Robin Comey and Sean Scanlon presented Klarman's children with a citation from the General Assembly.
A Branford resident and dedicated community volunteer, Klarman created the program in 1997 to meet the nutritional needs of the home-bound population in Branford. In the early years of the program, Klarman covered all aspects of the job, taking referrals, doing assessments, recruiting drivers and driving routes. She stepped down as coordinator in 2015 to care for her husband.
Today, the program provides home delivered meals to eligible individuals in Branford and North Branford. Volunteer drivers are delivering hot and frozen meals three days a week in Branford and one hot and one frozen meal once a week in North Branford.
Located in the Patricia C. Andriole Volunteer Services Center at 30 Harrison Ave. in Branford, non-profit CDR was founded in 1985 to provide food, support and companionship to shoreline neighbors. CDR serves the towns of East Haven, Branford, North Branford, Guilford, Madison, Clinton, Westbrook, and Old Saybrook.
