01/23/2019 08:00 AMThe second installment of local taxes are due on Friday, Feb. 1. While most residents are likely already aware of that deadline, town officials want to make sure residents are aware of how new town campus hours might affect them when people go pay their taxes.
On Fridays, Town campus is open from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. and since Feb. 1 is a Friday, Tax Collector Colleen Kiesewetter said she just wants to make sure residents don’t try to come pay their taxes late in the afternoon that day.
“We just don’t want anyone to be caught off guard,” she said.
If a resident forgets about the 12 p.m. close, that person can take their taxes to the post office to have them postmarked for Feb. 1 and avoid any late fee.
Taxes due on the Feb. 1 date are the second installment of the Real Estate, Personal Property, and Motor Vehicle Supplemental off the Oct. 1, 2017 Grand List. Those taxes were due and payable starting Jan. 1 and the last day to pay without incurring a penalty is Feb. 1.
Payment may be made during Town Hall office hours at the Tax Collector’s Office at 8 Campus Drive or by mail to Tax Collector, P O Box 587, Madison CT 06443. Those options haven’t changed. To pay taxes by credit card, debit card or electronic check, please go to www.madisonct.org. There is a convenience fee charged by the servicing company for online payment service. For more information or questions, contact the tax collectors office at 203-245-5641.
