Branford's Comey Appointed to State House Leadership Team
HARTFORD— 102nd District State Representative-Elect Robin Comey (D-Branford) has been appointed as Vice-Chair of the legislature's Committee on Children. She was also appointed as a member of the Education Committee, Public Health Committee and as Assistant Majority Leader.
"I am honored to represent the people of Branford and Connecticut, and will be able to work closely on the issues my constituents find to be the most significant. It is a privilege to be appointed as Vice-Chair of the Children's Committee as a first-term legislator, and I cannot be more proud to serve Connecticut's children," said Comey, who will be sworn into the Connecticut General Assembly on Wednesday, January 9 for her first term. "I am committed to improving the lives of residents throughout our state to ensure everyone has the resources to lead productive lives in Connecticut."
As Vice-Chair of the Children's Committee, Comey will work alongside State Representative Liz Linehan (D-Cheshire, Southington, Wallingford) on issues concerning Connecticut's youngest residents. Over the past years, the committee has helped create stable and safe communities for children to live and learn.
Comey has a vested interest in children's welfare and wellbeing and brings critical experience through her work as the Executive Director of the Branford Early Childhood Collaborative.
She will also bring in-depth experience to the Education Committee and Public Health Committee, which works on issues and programs relating to many state departments including the Department of Public Health and Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services. The committee also addresses matters relating to health, emergency medical services, licensing boards, among many other concerns.
Comey has been a long-time advocate for public health issues including mental health, food allergies, infant/maternal health, and developing strategic plans for improved community health.
She served on the Yale New Haven Hospital's Behavioral Health Patient and Family Advisory Council, which works to improve the mental health services the hospital provides. Comey also serves on several committees through the East Shore District Health Department such as the Maternal, Infant, and Early Childhood Home Visiting Program, which provides resources for infant and maternal health, and as a board member of the Community Health Improvement Planning Board.
