10/31/2018 10:45 AMOne hundred years ago on Nov. 11, 1918, the Armistice formally ending World War I took place. to celebrate this internationally important anniversary, jointly with 100 years of women in war, the historical societies in all three towns have come together to co-sponsor a free program titled “A Patriotic Salute.” The event will be held on Sunday, Nov. 4 at 3 p.m. at the Deep River Town Hall Auditorium. There will be a digital slide show of images of local veterans over the past 100 years, accompanied by patriotic music by the Corinthian Jazz Band. All are welcome and refreshments will be served.
Together, the three historical societies have gathered and compiled a PowerPoint presentation of 200 veterans from the tri-town area, who served in wars from World War I to today. It will run in a continuous loop during the event while patriotic music is played by the Corinthian Jazz Band. Fittingly a number of the band members are war veterans themselves.
