10/31/2018 09:30 AMThe Henry Carter Hull Library will host a free party open to the public on Wednesday Nov. 14 from 5 to 7 p.m. to celebrate 20 years in its current location at 10 Killingworth Turnpike.
Sarah Borgnis-Tobin, the adult programing coordinator, said the event is open to all ages and will feature cake, refreshments, and games such as pin the mustache on Henry. A photo booth with attire available to dress up like Henry Carter Hull is also planned for the night. There will also be a giveaway with prizes including a Kindle.
Additionally, the library has reached out to old volunteers and employees, as a well as the family of those who have passed away, to see if they would like to attend as well. A slide show of the library’s history will be shown.
Borgnis-Tobin noted that while Nov. 14 isn’t the exact day of the library’s move, the board of trustees decided they wanted to recognize the anniversary.
“We just decided to pick a day and do it,” Borgnis-Tobin said. “A lot of people don’t realize. They still think we’re the new library.”
Borgnis-Tobin recalled visiting the library in its previous location in the brick building in downtown Clinton that’s now home to Chester’s Barbecue.
“I grew up going there and have fond memories of going,” Borgnis Tobin said.
An old wooden sign from the library can still be seen in the current location as a nod to the previous library.
Borgnis-Tobin said that contrary to what many may think, the Henry Carter Hull Library is not just a building filled with books, but a place that offers much more. It regularly holds programs for children, teens, and adults, and features office gear like computers, mobile hot spots, and printers.
“It’s like a community center,” Borgnis-Tobin said.
