East Haven PD Undergoing CALEA Accreditation
The East Haven Police Department (EHPD) is pleased to announce it is undergoing an initial accreditation that is overseen and governed by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA).
The CALEA Accreditation Process is a proven modern management model; once implemented, it presents the chief of police, on a continuing basis, with a blueprint that promotes the efficient use of resources and improves service delivery—regardless of the size, geographic location, or functional responsibilities of the agency.
The EHPD will undergo a three-day onsite assessment to ensure compliance with the accreditation standards as set forth by CALEA. A team of CALEA’s assessors will conduct the onsite assessment at EHPD from Monday, Oct. 22 to Wednesday, Oct. 24. The assessment team will be composed of public safety and law enforcement practitioners from out-of-state agencies who are trained and well versed in CALEA’s standards.
As a part of the onsite assessment, a public information session will be conducted with the assessment team beginning at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 23 at the EHPD. Personnel of the EHPD and members of the community are invited to attend to offer comments regarding the EHPD’s ability to comply with CALEA’s standards; an overview of the CALEA standards can be found on CALEA’s website at www.calea.org.
Persons who cannot attend the public information session, but would like to provide comments to the assessment team, may do so during a call-in session by calling 203-468-2161 between 1 and 3 p.m. on Oct. 23.
