Westbrook’s Streetlight Switching Starts in November
With agreement now reached between the Energy Committee and Siemens on the type and intensity of each of the town’s new LED streetlight fixtures, committee member Bill Fish asked the Board of Selectmen to approve the installation contract with town vendor Siemens Corp.
The town’s contract with Siemens is for installing a light-emitting diode (LED) fixture in place of each of the town’s existing streetlights at a cost of about $192,000. The annual electricity bill savings for switching to LED streetlight bulbs has been estimated by the Energy Committee to be $73,000.
The town already owns its streetlights, which were purchased earlier this year from Eversource.
The motion by Selectman John Hall and approved unanimously was to authorize First Selectman Noel Bishop to sign the contract with Siemens. Installation of the new high-efficiency LEDs is anticipated to begin by November.
