Yellow police tape surrounding a medical office building at 263 Main Street Old Saybrook has been removed and the public let back into the building following the report of a suspicious package earlier this morning.

Several sources have reported the incident involved white powder, similar to incidents in New Haven and Hartford. A suspect in that case has been identified and is in police custody.

In this morning’s incident, the Old Saybrook Police Department response was augmented by the Connecticut State Police and the FBI.

One of the tenants at 263 Main Street is the local Planned Parenthood office, though WTNH reporter Tina Detelj reported from the scene that the suspicious package was not sent to Planned Parenthood (link here).

This morning’s incident comes after a detailed threat made against police officers turned the Old Saybrook Police Department into a crime scene on the evening of Sept. 6. After an investigation, the suspect who made the threat is now in federal custody and the workplace is getting back to normal.

According to a post on the Old Saybrook Police Department Facebook page on Sept. 6, “The Department received a very detailed communication which included threatening the lives of our Police Officers. The Department is working with State and Federal Law Enforcement on the issue.”

Police reported all employees were unharmed and while the building was partially closed off for the investigation into the threat, the Emergency Communication Center remained open and fully operational.

The incident ended when the suspect was taken into federal custody. Police thanked their law enforcement partners including the FBI, State Police, and Department of Energy & Environmental Protection.
