Branford Motor Vehicle Stop Results in Drug Arrest
August 31, 2018: A 27-year-old man from East Haven is facing several drug charges after a motor vehicle stop in Branford.
Shortly before 8 p.m. on Thursday, August 30, Officer Marc Andrew conducted a motor vehicle stop of a gray Chrysler Town and Country minivan on the I-95 Exit 55 southbound entrance ramp; after noticing that the vehicle been swerving while traveling on East Main Street. Upon making contact with the operator, identified as Luis Lozada, Officer Andrew detected the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. A subsequent search and further investigation revealed that Lozada was in possession of 80 baggies of suspected crack cocaine, a quantity of heroin, marijuana and Suboxone pills. In addition to the narcotics, more than $2,600 in cash was seized.
Lozada was charged with Failure to Drive Right, Possession of Marijuana, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Narcotics with Intent to Sell, and Possession of Narcotics. Lozada was held on a $50,000 bond pending an appearance in New Haven Superior Court.
