DUI Stop Yields Arrest for Intent to Sell Heroin, Cocaine
A Westbrook man stopped by Connecticut State Police over the weekend for driving erratically was arrested and charged with a number of drug offenses including intent to sell heroin and cocaine.
According to police, Austin Rinehart, 28, of Westbrook, was driving southbound on Route 9 in Chester, when officers observed him driving erratically. Rinehart was stopped for failure to maintain the proper lane and subsequently failed a series of field sobriety tests and was arrested.
Rinehart was charged with failure to maintain lane, driving under the influence, possession of a narcotic substance with intent to sell, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of a narcotic substance. He was released on a $1,000 surety bond and is pending an arraignment at Middletown Superior Court on Aug. 22.
