Sign, Septic Study and More Approved at Westbrook Town Meeting
Westbrook’s July 16 Town Meeting acted on 10 requests ranging from appropriations to fund transfers and grant acceptances.
Voters approved an appropriation of $26,277 from General Fund Engineering Services to the Capital WPCC Wastewater Management Program project for the purpose of completing a pilot study of passive nitrogen treatment systems.
The meeting also accepted a $20,000 grant from the Westbrook Foundation to buy an electronic notice sign to be installed in front of the Mulvey Center and to transfer $1,300 from the budget of the Economic Development Commission for an upgraded electronic sign surround.
Another Westbrook Foundation grant, this one in the amount of $12,462, was accepted and the funds then appropriated to pay for the new Ted Lane Field/Firehouse Playground pavilion. To augment the Westbrook Foundation grant for the Ted Lane basketball upgrade project budget, a $3,500 transfer was approved from the Parks & Recreation budget and $25,000 from the Public Works Grounds Maintenance budget.
Finally three appropriations were approved for projects to be paid for from the Board of Education’s capital reserve fund: $185,000 to remove and replace underground oil storage tanks (USTs) and replace a generator at the schools and $35,000 to conduct a facilities plan to review an assess the school facilities. The USTs will be removed by Tankworks. Another $65,000 was appropriated to pay for a door replacement project at the high school.
The last action was to approve a transfer of $635 from the Building Official Software Maintenance line to the Land Use Software capital project to complete the purchase of the Municity software package.
