Friends of Morgan Football Offering Chance to Win New Corvette
The Friends of Morgan Football organization is offering up to 1,000 people the chance to win a new Corvette at a drawing on Friday, Sept. 28 during halftime of the Huskies game against North Branford at the Ethel Peters Recreational Complex at 145 Glenwood Road.
The raffle is being held by the Friends of Morgan Football, which is selling 1,000 tickets at $100 apiece.
“One in a thousand—that’s better odds than the lotto,” said Friends Vice President Mark Palumbo.
To ensure the sports car—a 2018 Stingray Z51—finds an appreciative home in Clinton, Palumbo notes that its blue paint is “almost the same color as the school colors.”
The idea to raffle off the car, which Palumbo said the group has never done before, was proposed after Palumbo saw similar raffles with a cap on ticket sales done before.
“Unfortunately it was my idea, so I had to do the work,” Palumbo said, laughing.
That work included meeting with the Clinton Police Department to get permission to hold the raffle and registering the Friends of Morgan Football as a nonprofit corporation. Palumbo said the organization has changed its record keeping and meeting procedures to meet the requirements of being a nonprofit.
Now that the legwork has been completed, Palumbo said that the group’s focus is on selling the tickets.
Palumbo said he began selling the tickets on July 4 and has sold about 40 tickets at press time.
“We’re really excited about it,” Palumbo said.
Palumbo said he regularly takes the car to different events around town to raise exposure for the raffle, including the Summerfest and Clinton Family day.
“The bottom line is it’s a way to support the town and Morgan football,” Palumbo said.
Friends of Morgan Football, a group that primarily includes parents, supports the team by holding fundraisers that support offseason clinics, the concession stands, senior gifts, equipment, and programs.
In addition to being the vice president of the group, this year will be special for Palumbo, because his son will be a senior on the team.
“I’ll be hanging around when he’s gone,” Palumbo said.
