Chester Land Trust Huckleberry Adventure Recycle Raft Race Set for June 10
The Chester Land Trust is sponsoring its very own Huckleberry Adventure Recycle Raft Race on Sunday, June 10 at the Carini Preserve on Water Street in Chester. Participants will begin crafting rafts from recycled materials at 11 a.m. and the first race will kick off at 11:30 a.m.
The idea behind this event is to make the day a fun activity for kids as well as raise awareness of what the Chester Land Trust does.
“The land trust is trying to get younger parents and people involved in it, because it’s just trying to preserve open areas which are good for the environment,” said Chester Land Trust member Gail Norling.
Those who plan to participate in the race are more than welcome to bring their own recycled items on the day of the event, but that is optional as the land trust will provide the necessary materials at Carini Preserve.
Members of the Chester Land Trust have been preparing for race day by collecting recycled materials to be used to construct rafts. They’re also ready with duct tape, markers, scissors, construction paper, and folding tables and chairs.
Each race will consist of four rafts and there will be multiple races as waves of people roll in. Land trust members Norling, MarieAnne Heft, and Paulette Heft will serve as officials of the race, ensuring no rafts sink or go off course. Each winner will receive a prize.
Free parking will be available at the Water Street public parking lot. Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
