June 7 Groundbreaking for Branford's Walsh School Expansion Project
Branford Superintendent of Schools Hamlet Hernandez announced today (May 31) the town and district will celebrate the start of the Walsh Intermediate School (WIS) expansion/renovation project with a groundbreaking event at 9 a.m. on Thursday, June 7, in front of the building.
The groundbreaking will be hosted by Branford's Public Building Commission and the Board of Education. The ceremony will take place in front at WIS at 185 Damascus Road.
"The project team, comprised of Colliers International, Fusco Corporation, and Antinozzi Associates, have worked closely with the Branford Public Building Commission and Board of Education to make this long awaited project come to fruition," Hernandez stated in a press release.
In March, a public information session on the project was hosted at WIS to share changes impacting the school building and changes to traffic areas around the building when students return in the fall. Information sessions were also held at the town's elementary schools to help notify parents of incoming students next year. WIS serves as Branford's grades 5 - 8 public school.
The $88.2 million alteration/extension project, bonded by the town, will receive a $30 million state reimbursement.
