Academic and Extracurricular Activities
• Emily Dryzgula of North Branford, a junior advertising and integrated communications major at Quinnipiac University, was selected for the American Advertising Federation’s (AAF) Vance and Betty Lee Stickell Internship Program. At Quinnipiac, she is vice president of the AAF student chapter and a member of Lambda Pi Eta, the National Communication Association’s official honor society.
• Jennifer Giri of Branford, a student at University of Connecticut, was awarded the New England Scholar Pin for academic achievement in 2017.
• Bryce Mase of Northford, a student at Eastern Connecticut State University, attended the Geological Society of America Northeastern Section Annual Meeting in Burlington, Vermont. Mase was also inducted into Kappa Mu Epsilon, the national honor society for mathematics.
• Timothy Collins of Branford was awarded an honorable mention in the Landscape/Waterscape category of the 12th annual Land Trusts Photo Contest at the Lyme Senior Center, Old Lyme on April 6. The contest attracted 350 entries depicting wildlife, flora and scenery of East Haddam, Essex, Lyme, Old Lyme, Old Saybrook, and Salem.
• David Cifarelli of North Branford, a student at Assumption College, presented his original academic research project titled “Study Abroad and Your Academic Career” at the college’s annual undergraduate symposium in April.
• Stephanie Delucia of Branford, a student at Eastern Connecticut State University, was inducted into Alpha Kappa Delta, the international sociology honor society.
• Taryn Mockus of Branford, a doctoral candidate at Penn State College of Medicine, was recognised by P.E.O. International for her research on progressive multifocal leukeoencephalopathy, a rare disease marked by the destruction of cells in the brain.
• Charlee Grady of Branford, a student at Eastern Connecticut State University, received the Academic Achievement Award.
• Ashley Fantauzzi of Branford, a student at Curry College, was inducted into the Alexander Graham Bell Honor Society.
• Laima M. Karosas of Branford, a clinical professor and chair of graduate programs in the School of Nursing at Quinnipiac University, was elected to a two-year term as president of the Connecticut Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Society.
• Taron c. Jaruchaiyakul, a student at Branford High School, received a Connecticut High School Outstanding Arts Award at the Connecticut Association of Schools High School Outstanding Arts Awards banquet on April 3.
• Christian Treiber of Branford, a student at Quinnipiac University, was inducted into the Tau Rho Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau, the international academic nursing honors society.
